Fallout, season 2: “This armor weighs a ton!”

Meeting with Aaron Moten, the Knight of the Prime Video series, who tells us how Maximus has evolved, at the same time as his feelings for Lucy…

He is back in season 2 of Fallout which debuted on Prime Video.

Aaron Moten is the man in the armor. The interpreter of Maximus had already made a name for himself in the Netflix comedy Disjointed (2017–2018) alongside Kathy Bates, then in the slavery drama Emancipation (2022) opposite Will Smith. But it’s really thanks to the post-apo series, squire turned knight in the service of Lucy MacLean, that he is becoming a star.

In Iceland

Even if for him, glory seems to resonate in the distance. And for good reason: if season 1 of Fallout was a global phenomenon, the biggest success in the history of Prime Video, “I didn’t really feel it, to be honest” confides Aaron Moten to Première. “I was in Iceland with my wife, who is Icelandic, when season 1 came out. I had the impression that not many people had watched the series there… (laughs) No one came to see me… And then my wife made me understand that it was just not the culture of the country to bother the actors and actresses! I really became aware of the madness around Fallout only when I returned to the United States.

A graduate of Juilliard, the 36-year-old actor is not a great specialist in the video game saga. “I’m quite a big Diablo player,” he laughs before adding:

“Anyway, I would never have had the time to jump into a game of Fallout: New Vegas. I have three children, you know… So I prepared for my role by watching videos on YouTube. Above all, I had to stick to what had already been established with the creation of the character of Maximus in season 1.”

What relationship for Maximus and Lucy?

Maximus, in fact, has changed a lot after everything he experienced in the first season. The young dreamer in armor now knows the truth, but remains within the Brotherhood. “As we see at the end of season 1, he got what he always dreamed of: his promotion. He is now a Knight of the Brotherhood of Steel, but he knows things about the outside world after his experience with Lucy,” Moten explains. “He has to deal with all of this. He doesn’t really know what he wants. He likes power, but understands that the Brotherhood isn’t necessarily virtuous. We all face this kind of moral dilemma at one time or another. We can feel like the world around us is crazy, and it’s not easy to know how to live our lives in all that.”

Maximus has feelings, especially for Lucy, as Aaron Moten confirms to us: “This relationship is essential for the character. It means a lot to him. And in season 2, we will see how these feelings will influence Maximus,” teases the actor.

“He would like to be with her, but at the same time, he feels trapped by the Brotherhood. And you have to understand that survival is Alpha and Omega in the Fallout universe. It’s what guides absolutely all the characters.”

The weight of the armor

We will therefore discover the evolution of the knight in the next episodes of season 2. “I would say that this season is the second movement of the great Fallout symphony. We did the overture, and now we can explore the themes in more depth. It will crescendo to build on the metaphor”, smiles Aaron Moten.

For the actor, it also means wearing that huge metal armor again. And no, it is not added digitally in post-production:

“I really wear it, and it’s clearly the most complicated thing for me on this shoot. This armor weighs a ton! It’s a very heavy costume, extremely heavy,” he insists. “And moving your legs inside is very difficult. It feels like you’re inside a giant puppet.”

Season 2 of Fallout begins on Prime Video this December 17 in France. One episode per week until February 4, 2026.
