Family Spirit 2: the sequel to the 2005 Christmas comedy is confirmed
Twenty years after the first film, the Stone family will reunite for Christmas. Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams and Luke Wilson will return. And Jean Smart arrives.
Released in 2005, Family spirit (The Family Stone) followed Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker), the very stuck-up girlfriend of Everett (Dermot Mulroney), confronted with her partner’s bohemian and liberal family during the Christmas holidays. A catastrophic visit which shattered couples and loyalties, against a backdrop of the incurable illness of the matriarch Sybil Stone, played by Diane Keaton.
The sequel will jump forward twenty years. Sybil is dead (Diane Keaton passed away last year), but the Stone family is coming together again for Christmas. This time, it’s their father (Craig T. Nelson) who will create a surprise by introducing his children to the woman he fell in love with. And this newcomer will be played by Jean Smart. Freshly crowned with a fifth Emmy for Hacksthe actress therefore joins the cast of this sequel produced by Searchlight. His character is still kept secret.
Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Jessica Parker and Craig T. Nelson will return, along with Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, Luke Wilson, Tyrone Giordano, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Schneider and Brian White.
Tom Bezucha, director and screenwriter of the first film, takes over the same duties, with Michael London returning to production.
Filming is scheduled to take place in New York this fall.
