Friday the 13th, the origins: Crystal Lake trailer
Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, is about to experience the worst days of her life in the prequel series to the cult horror saga.
Pamela Voorhees is about to experience some particularly dark days.
The trailer for Crystal Lake, the prequel series to Friday the 13th, has just dropped and it announces a bloody dive into the origins of the Voorhees family.
On the program: the tragic death of young Jason, a series of murders and a Pamela who already seems to hear the famous “ki ki ki, ma ma ma” echoing in the woods.
Played by Linda Cardellini, Pamela is here a single mother who cannot overcome her grief. Nearly a year earlier, her son Jason, a fragile and sick child, tragically drowned in Crystal Lake. But the arrival of two strangers who come to investigate his past will trigger a disturbing series of events.
“I don’t want to get better,” Pamela says to police officer Levon Brooks in the trailer, as bodies begin to pile up around the lake. Some residents suspect man-eating bears, but others seem to know the true nature of the events striking the small town.
The official synopsis states: “The series follows Pam Voorhees, a single mother who cannot overcome her grief after the tragic drowning of her young son Jason in the town lake nearly a year earlier. When two strangers show up at her door and begin to investigate her past, a series of disturbing events are unleashed, leaving the residents of Crystal Lake to wonder: who really is Pam Voorhees?”
Composed of 8 episodes, Crystal Lake was created, written and developed by Brad Caleb Kane, already at work on It: Welcome to Derry.
Linda Cardellini is surrounded in the cast by William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. Callum Vinson plays young Jason, while Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik round out the recurring cast.
The project has been in development for several years. Ordered in October 2022, the series was initially to be carried by Bryan Fuller, the creator of Hannibal, who finally left his position as showrunner in 2024, leaving Brad Caleb Kane to take over.
The Friday the 13th franchise has to date twelve feature films, from the original film released in 1980 to the 2009 remake, including Freddy vs. Jason in 2003. A first television series, Friday the 13th: The Final Curse, was also broadcast between 1987 and 1990. Despite its title, however, it had no connection with Jason or Pamela Voorhees.
Crystal Lake will launch on October 15 in the United States on Peacock and will be available in France on HBO Max.
