House of the Dragon, season 2: even Fabien Frankel thinks Criston Cole isn’t cut out for the job!
Is he even suitable for such functions? After the final twist of episode 2, Fabien Frankel confides in Première.
King Aegon II has spoken. Episode 2 of Season 2 of House of the Dragon ended with a surprising twist. A very political twist… Warning spoilers!
There is now a new Hand of the King on the Council of King’s Landing. Otto Hightower was deposed by his grandson. He who had advised sovereigns for years (since Jaehaerys I exactly), who governed the 7 kingdoms in the shadows and had orchestrated the enthronement of his descendant (at the expense of Rhaenyra), was dismissed. He talked too much. Aegon II has decided to replace him with… Ser Criston Cole!
Yes, the Knight played by Fabien Frankel finds himself Hand of the King, sort of Prime Minister of the 7 Kingdoms, and even he does not seem very excited by this decision:
“Cristian is a man of action, caught up in political games. He did not choose this position” summarizes for Première the actor Fabien Frankelwhich suggests in the process that Alicent’s lover simply doesn’t want her:
“Cole’s been stuck in this castle for so long… But he’s a warrior. Not a politician. So all he wants is to get out of there, to leave this castle. Everything what he wants is to wage war and lead his men on the battlefield! Perhaps he will have the opportunity to do so later…”
Frankel is already teasing for Première the future choices of the former Lord Commander of the Royal Guard. Cole wants to go to the front as quickly as possible, now that he finds himself in a position that hardly suits him. This could accelerate the open war between the Green team and the Black team.
We will see this in the rest of season 2 of House of the Dragonnext Monday on Max in France.
