House of the Dragon, season 3: “I really ate lamb!”

For a notable scene in the first episode with the Sheep Thief dragon, Phoebe Campbell made an exception to her vegetarian diet… after eight years without meat. She tells us.

Before going to war and throwing herself headfirst into the Battle of the Gullet, Rhaena Targaryen spent the first half of the first episode of season 3 of House of the Dragon taming a wild dragon…

Spoiler alert!

Sheepstealer is not the type to be approached. But through perseverance, Daemon’s daughter ends up coaxing him. Until the creature spits a charred sheep at Rhaena’s feet. The young dragon rider agrees to share the dragon’s meal to finish creating the bond. A sequence which took a very concrete turn for Phoebe Campbell, on the set:

“It was an improbable moment!”, tells the interpreter of Rhaena to Première. She bursts out laughing:

“The thing was, I hadn’t eaten meat in eight years or something. But I agreed to play along. I figured it was a good time to boost my iron levels!”

Because yes, the 28-year-old actress has indeed eaten lamb in front of the cameras. She remembers it with a burst of laughter:

“It was a bit of a shock, I must say! The lamb really has a very strong taste… I won’t say more!”

Phoebe Campbell specifies that no obligation was imposed on her by production.

“Yes, it was definitely lamb in that scene. But it was my decision to eat it. I especially wanted to do it right… Afterwards, eating lamb when you haven’t touched meat for years is perhaps not the best idea (laughs)! It was quite an experience. An immersive experience in Rhaena’s shoes!”

In House of the Dragon, even a simple meal with a dragon can require some sacrifices. Season 3 continues every Monday in France on HBO Max.
