It’s finished, but you’ll never see it: this Netflix movie with Halle Berry thrown in the trash
The streamer has decided to get rid of The Mothership, whose filming ended… in 2021.
The Mothership will never (?) see the light of day: although filming on the film with Halle Berry has been completed since 2021, Netflix has just decided not to release it. Entertainment Weekly tells us that the streamer has decided to pull the plug after three years of post-production, the details of which we do not know. Our colleagues do not specify on what basis the decision was taken, but assume that the platform follows the path traced by Warner Bros., which recently threw away films already shot, such as Coyote vs. Acme Or Batgirl. The idea being to be able to benefit from significant tax deductions, rather than promoting feature films whose commercial potential is limited.
The Mothership (“The Mothership”) was to tell the story of Sara Morse – played by Halle Berry -, a woman who struggles to raise her children on the family farm, after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of her husband. A year after this unexplained tragedy, she discovers a strange extraterrestrial object under her house…
Matt Charman made his directorial debut with The Mothershipafter years of work as a screenwriter (he notably co-wrote The Bridge of Spies with the Coen brothers). Note that Halle Berry signed a contract for several films with Netflix a few years ago. We will see her soon in The Union.
