Shoah by Claude Lanzmann soon to be broadcast in full on France TV
On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Genocides and Crimes Against Humanity, the public service will offer the filmmaker’s documentary lasting more than 9 hours.
The documentary film on the genocide of the Second World War is undoubtedly the longest in its category. For 9:30 hours, Claude Lanzmann retraces in Holocaust the historical drama through the testimonies of those who witnessed and participated directly or indirectly in the deportation and extermination of the Jews. In this long-term work, the illustrious filmmaker never focused on a single individual, which allows us to provide the point of view of numerous witnesses.
“Hailed by the international press as a cinematographic and historical event, and one of the strongest works of the 20th century, Holocaust brings to life, without a single archival document, the destruction of European Jews by the Nazis during the Second World War and provides a radically new vision of the event.” declared France.TV in a press release.
January 27 is the Day of Remembrance of Genocides and Crimes Against Humanity, also commemorating the liberation of the Auschwitz camp which occurred precisely on January 27, 1945. The documentary released 40 years later was prepared for eleven years: this massive work is one of the most important in world cinema. In order to collect as many testimonies as possible, the filmmaker duped many people, including Nazis and members of the Polish communist bureaucracy, by using a false name and false papers.
France 2 will broadcast Holocaust on Tuesday January 30 from 9:10 p.m. The documentary will be available the next day on France.TV for 30 days.
