Jennifer Lawrence looks back on her two-year hiatus: ‘I was at peace with not coming back’

The 35-year-old Hollywood star makes her return this fall with Die My Love by Lynne Ramsay.

Did you miss her?

Jennifer Lawrence has not reappeared on screens since the summer of 2023 and the unpretentious little comedy The Challenge.

After a crazy decade which saw her string together hits and indie films, the revelation Winter’s Bone (2008) in the boxes of Hunger Gamesgoing through some critical and commercial setbacks like Passengers (2016), Mother! (2017) and Red Sparrow (2018) until Don’t Look Up (2021) by Adam McKay, the actress decided to take a break.

Jennifer Lawrence superstar said stop. And as she makes her return to the drama this fall Die my Love opposite Robert Pattison, the 35-year-old actress tells the Graham Norton Show about this two-year break during which she put her career on hold:

“I took some time for myself… I worked non-stop for the entire decade of my 20s. And then one day I said to myself: what is there outside of that? What is going on in the world?”

When Graham Norton asks her if she was afraid of not being able to return to Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence responds bluntly:

“I was actually at peace with the possibility. Hollywood is a lot! It’s very intense. I think I could have dealt with it, lived with it, but at the same time, I also would have been very upset I think… I don’t know.”

For now, Jennifer Lawrence isn’t overwhelmed with projects either. Die my Love was very poorly received at Cannes and will only have a small American release in November. No French date at the moment. And then? A project with Martin Scorsese (What Happens at Night) and possibly Leonardo DiCaprio is mentioned. Without further details for the moment.
