Eddie Munson will not return in season 5 of Stranger Things

The Duffer brothers shatter our last hopes: “He’s completely underground.”

His last solo really was…the last.

The creators of Stranger Things have confirmed that famous metal fan Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, will not appear in the 5th and final season of the Netflix series. The Duffer brothers explain in an interview with Empire:

“I love that Joe (Quinn) is playing with the fans! But no, he’s dead!”

Going further in the explanations, they specify:

“Jospeh is so busy anyway, everyone should understand that he’s not coming back. He’s done five movies since season 4 of Stranger Things! When would he have had time to come back and star in Stranger Things? No, unfortunately, RIP. He’s completely underground.”

Some previously killed characters have already made appearances in subsequent seasons of Stranger Things. For example, in season 4, Dacre Montgomery returned as Billy’s ghost to haunt his sister Max (Sadie Sink) via Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). But that won’t be the case for Eddie. Because in recent months, Joseph Quinn has been very busy, filming and promoting Fantastic Four, Gladiator II, not to mention preparing the Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes, in which he will play George Harrison.

Eddie Munson had left the show in spectacular fashion, shredding his guitar to Metallica’s Master of Puppets in the Upside Down before being devoured by a swarm of Demo-bats. And this is the image he will leave to posterity…

This fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be launched in three stages: Volume 1 (four episodes) will arrive on November 26, Volume 2 (three episodes) will be available at Christmas, and the grand finale will be broadcast on December 31. Each game will go live at 5 a.m. French time.
