Jérôme Niel is the disturbing Paolo: discover the teaser for the new HBO Max series

A new French series imagined and produced by Sébastien Marnier.

We are used to seeing him as a supercharged troublemaker, recently in Lucky Luke where he played Joe Dalton opposite Alban Lenoir. But with Paolo, Jérôme Niel radically changes register and goes to the other side of the mirror: that of troubled and disturbing characters, as evidenced by the first trailer for the series which has just been revealed (below).

HBO Max lifts the veil on the teaser and new images of its new original French series. Presented a few months ago in International Competition at the Séries Mania festival, Paolo promises to be a captivating and disturbing psychological thriller, which explores the relationships of domination, the social ambitions and the gray areas of complex characters within a small fictional town in full turmoil.

Synopsis: “The ordinary life of a man is turned upside down when he crosses paths with Téophane, a former school friend who has become a candidate for mayor of his town. What begins as a simple admiration and a desire to support his campaign quickly transforms into a devouring obsession… Paolo plunges into the closed world of a small provincial town where transgressions, class anxieties, games of influence and pretenses collide.”

Created, written and directed by Sébastien Marnier, noticed in the cinema with The Origin of Evil, Paolo promises to be a singular work, both intense and deeply disturbing.

Facing Jérôme Niel, we will find Yoann Gasiorowski from the Comédie-Française, who embodies the charismatic Téophane, a figure of dazzling success. The cast also brings together Magalie Lépine-Blondeau, Marie Oppert from the Comédie-Française, Léo Chalié, Véronique Ruggia, Guslagie Malanda, Salif Cissé, Françoise Lebrun, Léa Lopez from the Comédie-Française, as well as Philippe Katerine.

Co-written with Juliette Soubrier and produced by Floriane Cortes and Gaspard de Chavagnac, Paolo will have 7 episodes. The series will be available from September 25 on HBO Max in France.
