Johnny Depp back in Pirates of the Caribbean?
“Anything is possible”, according to a close friend of the actor.
In 2017, Johnny Depp put on the costume of Jack Sparrow for the last time in Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge, public failure for a film which ultimately only brought in 795 million for a budget of 280 million dollars. The actor will finally be pushed out by Disney three years later after his first lost lawsuit against Amber Heard.

After playing a series of minor roles, the actor returned to the limelight this year thanks to his incarnation of King Louis XV (in French!) in Jeanne du Barry by Maïwenn, presented at the opening of the last Cannes Film Festival. People magazine reports that he would now be interested in returning to play Jack Sparrow in a future film. “Everything is possible. If he likes the project, he will do it”, reveals an anonymous source close to the actor.
In a New York Times article published last month, Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture, had “opened the doorto an eventual Depp return to the role. Jerry Bruckheimer, producer on all the films in the saga, told the Sunday Times in May 2022 that he was developing two scenarios around the saga Pirates of the Caribbean, including a planned film with Margot Robbie in the cast, who herself announced a few weeks later that the film would probably never be made. Johnny Depp, for his part, had announced in April of that same year, during his trial, that he would never return to the saga.
