After the success of The Maid, this biopic with Sydney Sweeney will be released in cinemas in France
The actress is unrecognizable in this boxing film which was a knockout at the US box office a few months ago.
With 200 million dollars in revenue in the United States and 3 million admissions in France, the success of The Housekeeper raised Sydney Sweeney’s rating. Quite a rebound for the star who is coming off a huge flop and controversy with Christinethe biopic where she plays a boxing champion with a tragic destiny.
Despite her impressive transformation, breaking her sexy image, and positive reviews, the young star did not convince the public. Christine only collected 2 million dollars at the US box office, for a budget of 15 million. A failure which immediately removed her from the race for the Oscar for best actress, of which she was a serious outsider a few weeks earlier.
Sydney Sweeney also found herself at the heart of a tenacious controversy due to her advertising for a brand of jeans, accused of conveying a discourse of white supremacism. Propelled as a MAGA icon and congratulated by Donald Trump, she refused to clarify her position when the subject came up again during the promotion of Christine. Cornered on the ropes, she was at least able to count on the support of the real Christy Martin:
“Over the past few days I’ve seen people attack my friend Sydney Sweeney. Syd not only worked hard for this film, but for me. For my story. For everyone who suffers in silence. So I want to be clear about who Syd is. She is my friend and my ally.“
By reversing the calendar, Christine has not yet been released in France. And while we could have feared that it would be canceled, as we saw recently for GOATa production by Jordan Peele, or Ella McCaythe film by James L. Brooks with Emma Mackey, it will be distributed in French cinemas.
In the United States, Christine was released by Black Bear, a renowned production company but which was distributing a film in this territory for the first time. In France, a well-established company, Metropolitan Film Export, takes care of this. It has also just capitalized on the success of The Housekeeperthe sequel to which has already been ordered, still starring Sydney Sweeney.
Everything is going very quickly in the star system, Sydney Sweeney is on the rise again and she ignites the trailer for season 3 ofEuphoriarevealed this week, which will launch in April on HBO. In this context, we are curious to see how Christine will be welcomed by the French public, during its theatrical release scheduled for March 4. Trailer:
