Josh Gad (Olaf) has only one regret regarding Frozen…

“If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t have given my voice to this snowman.”

He is one of the most popular characters in Disney history, and yet he almost never saw the light of day. Olaf, this simple-minded but big-hearted little snowman, is adored by the public, and by his original voice actor Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast) who brought him to life with his voice. However, the latter cannot help but have a regret concerning this sidekick of Frozen.

Invited across the Atlantic to the Fan Expo Canada, the actor declared during a panel that his biggest mistake was to keep his normal voice to dub Olaf:

“If I could do it all over again, I wouldn’t have given this snowman my voice. I would have made a different voice.”

Although one might think that this regret is for artistic reasons, imagining a more or less wavering or high-pitched voice for this ephemeral fellow, the truth is more pragmatic and comical:

“It’s kind of weird to be in the supermarket and have a kid turn around and look at you with big, wide eyes. That was my first big mistake. But you know, people tell me I have a unique tone of voice. They seem to like my voice, so I try to give them what I can.”

His popularity with children amuses him as much as the plot. But will he be able to change his voice for the two upcoming parts? Difficult now that viewers have become accustomed to his tone since 2013 and 2019 with Frozen 2.

Olaf will return alongside Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) for a third installment scheduled for release in November 2027. A surprise for Josh Gad who did not expect to return to voice this character. Invited on the American show Live with Kelly Mark, he explained that he discovered the news announced at D23, when he was on vacation:

“Nobody thought to call us and say: ‘Oh, by the way, we’re making two sequels to your movies.’ But since then, I’ve heard a few things about it, and it’s going to be unimaginable. I’m so excited to see what they’ve dreamed up. It’s really incredible.”

Eight years after the last adventures of the princesses of Arendelle and the billion dollars in revenue reached (as for the first opus of 2013), Frozen 3 is highly anticipated. Will it live up to its predecessors?
