Enjoy! The France.tv series that will make you think before you get it delivered
What is behind the meal that arrives at your home in 30 minutes? Author Benoit Marchisio asks himself in this social thriller rooted in its time. Meeting.
This is the story of Abel, a bicycle delivery man for the app Enjoy! He comes to bring you your burgers on the threshold of your apartment door, in just a few minutes. But what is his story? Benoit Marchisio asked himself the question one day in Paris, while he was cycling and he began to notice all these cyclists with bags on their backs next to him at the red light.
“As I dug deeper, I realized that there were rules in this world that were conducive to writing a thriller.” tells Première the writer, who thus signed his first novel, “Tous complices!” (in 2021), which he is now adapting for the small screen for the France.tv platform (the episodes can be seen here).
In six episodes, Enjoy! aims to play with the steamroller of a society where consumption must be more and more immediate, from food to information! A series committed to the substance, it is not intended to moralize to the spectators. Just to invite them to question themselves:
“The series has a message, that’s obvious. But do I want to get a message across? I’m not sure,” temperate Benoit Marchisio. “In the era of fake news, the role of fiction is to bring a different point of view. We invite people to ask themselves: what does it mean when I press the button on my app? What does it trigger behind it?”
For the author, this is precisely where the evocative power of fiction lies.”I like the idea of entertainment that serves a purpose. I don’t want to hold the viewer’s hand and tell them what to think, to boycott or whatever. Enjoy! will have succeeded in its mission if people’s consciences are awakened by having spent a great time watching six exciting episodes. Keeping the audience in suspense until the end is what I want first and foremost. Afterwards, if the series allows us to generate a few questions, then so much the better!”
The title alone is already titillating. Enjoy!, like the name of the delivery app at the center of the series (in the book, this app has no name) which contains “a form of irony” assumed by the author. “There was already this idea behind “All accomplices!”, the title of the novel. We find it in Enjoy!. This idea of telling the viewer: enjoy your meal that we’re bringing you, while we talk about what’s off-screen, about everything you don’t see before it’s delivered.”
Enjoy! in six episodes, to watch for free on France.tv from September 20
