Jumpers: finally a Pixar original which is a hit at the US box office

On the other hand, it’s a disaster for The Bride and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Pixar finally delivers on its new winning bet.

Released this weekend in the United States, Jumpers went straight to the top of the US box office with a solid start to $46 million in 4,000 theaters. A confirmed international launch with an additional 42 million, or $88 million, raised worldwide after a few days of operation. This is a nice score for an original film – don’t understand a sequel to a previous hit. Driven by excellent reviews and enthusiastic word of mouth, Jumpers could even become the studio’s first true original hit in nearly a decade.

Pixar’s last undisputed triumph without being a sequel indeed remains Coco in 2017. The fantastic musical opened to 50 million before reaching 210 million dollars in the United States and the dazzling cumulative total of 823 million worldwide! Since then, spectators have mainly responded for the franchises, in particular Vice-Versa 2 which exploded the counters with 1.69 billion dollars in 2024.

Conversely, original projects had much more difficulty finding their audience. The studio’s most recent attempt, Elio in 2025, was satisfied with 154 million dollars worldwide for a budget of 150 million! Same budget for Jumpers. But the film directed by Daniel Chong should be really profitable!

The Bride : huge crash for Maggie Gyllenhaal

The contrast is brutal for the other big release of the week: The Bride! makes a face! The film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, a feminist rereading of the myth of The Bride of Frankensteincollapsed at the box office with only $7.3 million collected in 3,304 North American theaters.

A catastrophic result for a Warner Bros. production. whose budget reaches 90 million dollars. The studio’s projections were for 16 to 18 million for its first weekend, while independent estimates already suggested a more conservative launch of between 10 and 15 million. Worse still, the film is also struggling internationally with only 6.3 million additional, for a very fragile worldwide launch of… 13.6 million. The Bride is already shaping up to be the first big flop of the year.

Scream 7 resists despite a heavy fall

In the rest of the ranking, Scream 7 suffers a 74% drop in attendance for its second weekend but still manages to stay ahead The Bride in second place at the US box office. Paramount’s slasher still collects 17.3 million in 3,540 theaters and now has 93.3 million in the United States and 149.4 million worldwide.

Despite mixed reviews, the film could become the highest-grossing installment in the franchise, ahead of Scream (1996) and Scream 2 (1997), who respectively ended their careers around 173 and 172 million dollars.

Stormwind confirms its success

Finally, the new sensual adaptation of Wuthering Heights directed by Emerald Fennell rounds out the top 5 with $3.8 million in its fourth weekend. The Margot Robbie/Jacob Elordi version of Emily Brontë’s novel has now grossed $78 million in North America.

The R-rated film, however, achieved its best performance internationally with an additional 134.9 million, bringing its worldwide total to 213 million for an estimated budget of 80 million. A real success.
