Last Chance Project is the first big global hit of 2026

Even if it is the Chinese film Pegasus 3 which is currently dominating the year’s box office.

It’s the first tidal wave of the year. Last Chance Project (Project Hail Mary) stands out as the very first very big global success of 2026.

The film by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, adapted from the novel by Andy Weir, has just crossed the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office, reaching precisely 300.8 million after an additional weekend of 54.1 million in 86 markets. With an estimated budget of 200 million, the space odyssey officially becomes the biggest success in the history of the Amazon MGM studio.

In the United States, the film continues to crush the competition. For its second weekend, it earned another 55 million dollars and now peaks at 165 million on American soil. Internationally, Last Chance Project confirms its dominance with solid performances, notably in the United Kingdom ($6.3 million), China ($7.7 million), Australia ($3.8 million), South Korea ($3.3 million) and Germany ($3.4 million).

Result: it already exceeds 276 million worldwide Creed IIIwhich previously held the record for Amazon MGM since the acquisition of MGM in 2022

And above all, it becomes the first real global hit of 2026, ahead of Jumpers ($297.6 million), the latest Pixar.

Let’s say the biggest for Hollywood. Because it’s the Chinese film Pegasus 3 which is currently number 1 at the 2026 box office. This racing film released last February peaked at $609 million, but is not really a global phenomenon, since the overwhelming majority ($606 million) comes from its domestic market alone.

In the rest of the box office, Scream 7 continues quietly on its way. The Paramount Pictures film has just crossed 200 million dollars in worldwide revenue ($204 million), a solid score given its contained budget of 45 million.

Conversely, starting is much more complicated for They Will Kill You. The thriller by Zazie Beetz and Tom Felton only collected $5 million for its first weekend in the United States (the film was released last Wednesday in France).
