Louis Leterrier can’t wait to reunite Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 11
The quarrel between the two stars is over, assures the director of Fast X.
On the occasion of the forthcoming release of Fast and Furious X on DVD and blu-ray (see you at the end of September in France), Comicbook.com asked some questions to its director, Louis Leterrier, who replaced Justin Lin at short notice on this tenth opus, before being hired immediately to shoot his direct sequel. Who will see coming back Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs opposite Vin Diesel in Dom Toretto.
Dwayne Johnson makes peace with Vin Diesel and announces his return to Fast & Furious
This “comeback” puts an end to a quarrel of several years between the two actors, and Louis Leterrier is very proud to be able to stage their reunion. With their war of egos behind them, he says he can’t wait to film them side by side.
“I just love the idea of them coming back together, answers the French director. What I realized – because I’m like you a fan of the saga, I had read stuff about them is that they actually talked to each other throughout (of their confusion). They would send text messages to wish each other a happy birthday or a merry Christmas. But each from his own life… As for their characters, they share the same universe but are very different. Especially since Hobbs & Shaw which offered a different tone in the saga. This film stood out completely from the rest of the franchise… So we all looked at each other and asked ourselves: ‘Honestly, wouldn’t it be cool to see you together again? Not just for the franchise, but also for the fans and for you guys, for all of us to get on the same train together.’ This is the conversation we had. I was happy to be able to work with Dwayne on this day (while it turns his cameo For FastXeditor’s note)and I like the possibility that we will work together more afterwards.”
He adds, about his work as a director on this saga, that everything does not depend on him, that everyone must agree to validate each decision. Especially Vin Diesel, who, in addition to carrying the franchise on his shoulders as an actor, is one of its star producers. “The thing about my position in this franchise is that I’m first and foremost a fan, explained Leterrier. I’m like that kid in a candy store whose clerk has left, and who thinks to himself: ‘Okay, we can go, let’s go!’ For my dreams to come true, you know, everyone has to agree.”
Isn’t he afraid to make the buffer between the two stars, if Hobbs returns and his interpreter finds a certain importance in the sequel? “No, no, no, no, no, no and no. They get along very well. They don’t fight. Honestly, this set is so fun, so enjoyable… I’m not lying to you about the promo, we really had a great time. I was nervous at first, of course, but everyone works hard and wishes the best for this franchise. So no (I am not afraid). We see this as a way to move forward towards our grand finale.”
The second part of FastX is expected in theaters on April 2, 2025… If the strike by actors and screenwriters does not delay its production too much.
