Mark Hamill validates the new direction of Star Wars

The passing of the baton has taken place in the Star Wars galaxy. Dave Filoni is in charge after the departure of Kathleen Kennedy and Luke Skywalker himself supports this change of direction.

The wind is turning towards the galaxy far, far away. And Mark Hamill validates.

The interpreter of Luke Skywalker provides outspoken support for the new direction of Star Warsnow entrusted to Dave Filoni, named co-president and creative director of Lucasfilm alongside Lynwen Brennan, after the departure of Kathleen Kennedy last January. In an interview with USA Today, the actor does not hide his enthusiasm:

I can’t imagine the saga in better hands.”

A dubbing that carries weight. And which doesn’t come from nowhere: Dave Filoni is not a newcomer. Trained directly by George Lucas, he shaped a good part of the Star Wars modern, Star Wars: The Clone Wars to Disney+ series like The Mandalorian Or The Book of Boba Fett.

“George was Dave’s mentor, so Dave understands George’s sensitivity…”

An intimate knowledge of the universe that Mark Hamill himself puts forward: according to him, Filoni understands the franchise “to perfection”. The two men also collaborated during the return of Luke Skywalker – digitally rejuvenated – in these series: “It was very cool to do!”

An almost obvious creative continuity, which contrasts with the more chaotic years that the saga experienced. Under the presidency of Kathleen Kennedy, for 14 years, Star Wars had signed a triumphant return with The Force Awakens. But what followed was divisive, particularly with THE Last Jedi And The Rise of Skywalker. Films which fractured part of the fandom and aroused reservations even among Mark Hamill, unconvinced by the evolution of Luke, who became a disillusioned hermit after the fall of Ben Solo. Today, the actor is looking elsewhere. Because despite his displayed support, Mark Hamill assures him: he will not come back.

“I had my moment.I’m grateful for that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”

The Star Wars saga will resume with the film The Mandalorian & Grogu which will be released in cinemas next month.
