One of Stallone’s best films to be adapted into series by James Mangold

30 years after making Copland, the Logan filmmaker will remake his film into a TV series.

It’s a cult thriller, often considered Sylvester Stallone’s best acting performance.

Copland will experience a second life as a series, under the leadership of James Mangold (Logan). The director is currently developing a series adaptation of his own feature film, for Paramount Television Studios and Miramax Television.

The filmmaker will co-write, direct and produce this television version, supported by Robert Levine, co-creator of The Old Man. A first foray as a scriptwriter in drama series for Mangold, who has done little TV in his career (he was producer of Zooadapted from James Patterson).

According to initial information, the project is already generating strong interest in Hollywood, with several offers from broadcasters on the table, proof that the aura of the original film remains intact almost 30 years after its release.

At the time, Cop Land marked a turning point in Sylvester Stallone’s career, in an unsuitable role: that of Freddy Heflin, a hearing-impaired New Jersey sheriff, responsible for enforcing the law in a small town populated… by New York cops. Faced with a network of corrupt police officers, he had to choose to fight or crash. A film carried by an impressive cast, including Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Harvey Keitel.

We imagine that the series Cop Land will replay the story, 30 years later, in a more modern setting, and with other actors (no casting at the moment). It’s not yet clear whether Stallone will be involved in any way.
