Ridley Scott still plans to make Alien: Covenant sequel
The director is currently working on a sequel to Prometheus and Covenant.
Almost ten years later Alien: Covenantdirector Ridley Scott has not abandoned the idea of continuing his story around the android David, played by Michael Fassbender.
In an interview given to Los Angeles Timesthe filmmaker confirms that he is still working on a third prequel to the saga. And he already has the central idea…
The story would resume with David creating “a new world for itself”. A direct extension of Alien: Covenantwhich ended on a huge cliffhanger with the android taking control of the Covenant ship and its thousands of human embryos.
Ridley Scott remains particularly fascinated by David and by what he represents: an artificial intelligence that has escaped its creators. “AIs can go off the rails. And if they do, it’s like a bomb”he explains. The director also questions the ability of an AI to one day surpass human intelligence: “The danger is that she will outgrow this and become more intelligent than us.”
This new adventure would therefore be centered more on David and artificial intelligence than on the Xenomorph itself, in continuation of the ambitions that Scott had already mentioned after Covenant. However, the project does not yet have a production schedule or official release date.
