Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet kick off ‘Dunesday’ buzz
Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 will be released in theaters on the same day, mid-December. Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet are already heating up the sauce.
There was the phenomenon Barbenheimer in 2023. Then the combo Wicked / Gladiator 2 in 2024 nicknamed Gliked. The end of the year 2026 will be that of Dunesday.
Dune 3 And Avengers: Doomsday will be released at the same time in theaters, next Wednesday December 16 in France. An already historic date as the wait around these two behemoths is immense. On the one hand, the highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU, this time in the guise of Doctor Doom. On the other, the continuation of the monumental SF fresco imagined by Denis Villeneuve, begun in 2021 with Dune.
And Robert Downey Jr. himself has just validated the event.
Invited to a special screening of Marty Supremethe last film carried by Timothée Chalamet – hero of Dune – Robert Downey Jr. spoke out during a public exchange with the actor. The opportunity for the two stars to look back on the simultaneous release of their two potential hits. Facing the public, the ex-Iron Man blurted out with a smirk:
“We both have films coming out on December 18 (the 16th in France), so we decided to give this day a name. We’re thinking ‘DUNESDAY’.” Immediate laughter in the room. Before adding, hilariously, for the attention of Chalamet: “We’ll see if we’re still friends by then.”

Remember that Robert Downey Jr. was already a tidal wave Barbenheimerwith Oppenheimer facing barbie.
Still, beyond the joke, Avengers: Doomsday And Dune: Part 3 risk waging a head-on war for IMAX screens and premium, limited formats, which have an increasingly significant impact on the total box office (the price of the ticket being significantly higher).
For now, neither Warner nor Disney has backed down. The two films are still scheduled for the same date. Dunesday awaits us.
