Severance: five questions to which season 3 will have to answer

After the final episode of season 2, the Apple TV+ series leaves us with a lot of mysteries on our arms … We have listed some.

What will happen to Mark S. and Helly?

The Innie of Mark did not believe his outraged as to his desire to “reintegrate” their two personalities, he chooses not to follow Gemma to the outside of the building. The Severed Floor Mark therefore remains inside with Helly … even if he has to suspect that their chances of survival are limited (Jame Eagan will not let his daughter wander endlessly in the corridors, and Mark still caused the death of an employee). So what good? “” As he looks at Gemma and he looks at Helly, he does not only choose between two women, he chooses between existence or non-existence “, Specifies the showrunner Dan Erickson at Rolling Stone. “” He realizes that leaving with Gemma means that his life as he knows it is over. During the season, he reached this point where he is able to enhance his own existence as an individual, independent of his outland. Even if his main objective during the season was to get Gemma out and help his outie, he ended up choosing his own life. But I think that at that time, they don’t know what they run towards. They may run around five minutes of additional life, or they may try to get more. I don’t think they know it. »»

Will Gemma get out of it?

After being guided by the innie of Mark and found his memories of Outie, Gemma finally passes the door of the Severed Floor. Beyond the devastation of seeing her husband (or at least a version of her husband) choose another woman, she is technically free. Except that she is absolutely not yet saved: we imagine that security at Lumon does not stop there, and he still has to leave the building. Even if she would succeed, the firm seems to count enough on her to try to find her wherever she is on earth … Hopefully Devon and Cobel have a solid plan to succeed in hiding it.

Why did Lumon choose Gemma as a guinea pig? And what exactly?

Despite an episode 7 which says a lot about Mark and Gemma (we seem to understand that she made a miscarriage, after many attempts to get pregnant … Thanks to a clinic belonging to Lumon), we do not yet know exactly in what circumstances Lumon made believe the death of the young woman. A dialogue at the start of season 2, however, lets you know that Mark identified his wife’s body with the morgue: but how did the devil the firm succeeded in this sleight of hand and trapped Mark, making her swallow that she had had a car accident?

Furthermore, what is the “Severance” process really? Let’s go back to season 1: we discover that there are special cabins where the innie of a pregnant woman can give birth in place of her outland, thus avoiding pain. In season 2, Lumon asks one of the gemma Innies to dismantle a baby cradle. It shows no particular feeling. “” The barrier holds “, Ensures Doctor Mauer, seeming to congratulate himself that Gemma does not in any way connect the experience to his own infertility problems. It would seem that the firm works on a system that exceeds that of work: it could be a question of allowing the richest to let their innies live their trauma in their place.

But why sacrifice baby goats?

Overviews in season 1, Lumon’s goats had a priori no logic. Season 2 thickens the mystery with Lorne (impeccable Gwendoline Christie in the shoes of the chef of the service of ” Nurturable mammalians ») Seeing himself asking to sacrifice a cabri for« to guide Gemma’s mind to Kier. The case will end with the death of Mr. Drummond, but that is almost everything we know at this stage … Is it simply a way of keeping control over the Innies? Is it a test? Dan Erickson doesn’t say much more: “ We will not immediately raise the curtain on lots of stuff, but we (the writers) must have answers, just so that there is an internal logic in our reflection. Explanations therefore exist. See you next year?

Will Irving come back?

After talking with Burt, Irving takes a single one for an unknown destination. But will we see it again one day? Will we know if he himself went down to the floor of the tests carried out on Gemma? Does he have deeper ties to Lumon? Ben Stiller assures Variety that it is “for the moment” the end of the story for Irving and Burt. But John Turturro explained that he would not be satisfied with this end for his character. You can reasonably bet on your return for season 3.
