She replaces Reese Witherspoon: trailer

Before Harvard, before the trials and before becoming a pop culture icon, Elle Woods was a high school student like any other. Well, almost.

Twenty-five years after the release of Legally Blonde at the cinema, Prime Video is preparing to bring the unforgettable Elle Woods back to life.

The platform unveiled the first trailer for Elle, a prequel series produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon’s production company, which will therefore give way to a younger version of the character. To play this adolescent version of the heroine, the production chose Lexi Minetree.

The series takes us back to 1995, well before the events of the cult 2001 film. We discover a young Elle Woods still in high school, confronted with the torments of adolescence, between complicated friendships, first romantic stirrings and sometimes questionable clothing choices. According to the official synopsis: “Before finding herself like a fish out of water at Harvard, Elle Woods navigates the tumultuous waters of high school. Between complicated friendships, forbidden romance and questionable fashion choices, she can count on the support of her family and strengthens her bond with her mother. Through each ordeal, Elle becomes a little closer to the young woman we know and love today.”

June Diane Raphael plays Eva, Elle’s mother, while Tom Everett Scott plays her father, Wyatt.

The rest of the cast includes Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, Amy Pietz, Jessica Belkin, Danielle Chand, Matt Oberg, Chloe Wepper, Logan Shroyer, Sharon Taylor, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada and James Van Der Beek.

With its very 1990s atmosphere, its tangy colors and its unwavering desire to tell the origins of Elle Woods, the series intends to appeal to those nostalgic for the film as well as a whole new generation of spectators.

It will be available from July 1 on Prime Video in France.
