Narcos creator working on Peaky Blinders-style series
The plot of this new MGM + production will revolve around Irish gangs at the end of the 19th century.
Present in France on the occasion of Série Mania, Chris Brancato announced that it was working on a new project, still in collaboration with MGM +. A radical change of scenery after Hotel Cocaine, presented in international competition at the French festival and whose action takes place in an iconic 70's club in Miami. For good reason, the showrunner's next series will develop against the backdrop of Irish gang warfare in New York at the end of the 19th century, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Series Mania 2024: Hotel Cocaine, blood and money (review)
It must be said that with Narcos and his drug cartel, and Hoodlum And Godfather of Harlem, which looks at the underbelly of New York in two different eras, Chris Brancato is a regular with mafiosos from all walks of life and from all eras. This project, currently titled The Westiesis therefore no surprise for those who know his filmography.
For the moment, Brancato did not wish to reveal more information about this future series, however, the few details that he was willing to give echo some existing references. At the movie theater, Scorsese covered the same subject in Gangs of New York with Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz And Liam Neeson. By 2003, the film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, and won two Golden Globes, including Best Director.
As for the small screen, it is Peaky Blinders which acts as a beacon, although its plot takes place slightly later than the creator intended for The Westies, and in England. Based on the series created by Steven KnightChris Brancato would rush into the breach allowed by the end of the series in 2022.
Before knowing more about this draft, we are waiting to know if Hotel Cocaine will receive an award at Série Mania, and above all, when will this series be released, in which Michael Chiklis (The Shield) plays one of the main roles.
