Spider-Man: Brand New Day already passes 2 billion dollars

The new Marvel film becomes only the eighth in history to reach this dizzying milestone at the global box office, and the second fastest behind Avengers: Endgame.

The question may seem crazy, but it is now starting to be asked seriously. After only three weekends in theaters, Tom Holland’s new film has just crossed the $2 billion mark in worldwide revenue.

Sony’s blockbuster has earned precisely $2.022 billion, with $785 million collected in North America and $1.23 billion internationally. A performance which propelled him directly into a particularly exclusive club.

Only eight films in the entire history of cinema have now exceeded $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day joined thus Avatar (2.9 billion), Avengers: Endgame, Avatar: The Way of Water (2.3 billion), Titanic (2.2 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2.07 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War (2.03 billion).

And the new Spider-Man didn’t just reach that threshold: he did so with phenomenal speed. It becomes the second fastest film in history to cross 2 billion, behind Avengers: Endgamewhich had reached this sum in just 11 days.

The previous Spider-Man: No Way Home had also come very close to joining this very closed circle. The 2021 film finished at around $1.9 billion, but did not reach $2 billion, in part because it was not released in China.

Already in the historic Top 10

With 2.022 billion dollars, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already become the eighth biggest hit in global box office history. And unlike several films present in this ranking, his career is still very far from over.

This is precisely what makes the rest of his journey so fascinating. The film displays exceptional power, but also a strong enough hold that watchers start looking much higher.

The first objective is now obvious: Brand New Day can it exceed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its 2.07 billion dollars to enter the Top 5? He is already only missing around fifty million dollars.

Then will come Avengers: Infinity War, Titanic, Avatar: The Way of Water And Avengers: Endgame. As for the absolute record, it remains the property ofAvatar and its 2.9 billion dollars.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now launched in the race for 3 billion dollars, a threshold never reached by any film until now. Will Peter Parker be the first to break the box office barrier? Nothing is less certain, while attendance seems to decrease significantly from one week to the next. Despite his enormous popularity, Spider-Man may have difficulty extending his web to another, much larger audience, totally disinterested in super heroic adventures.

On the other hand, the film can perfectly aim for another unprecedented feat: becoming the first film in history to exceed a billion dollars on the North American market alone.
