Stephen Amell will be David Hasselhoff’s son in the new series Baywatch

The ex-Arrow star has just been cast to play Hobie Buchannon, in the sequel which will be released in 2026 on American TV.

At its peak, Baywatch was the most watched series in the world, broadcast in over 200 countries!

For years, Hollywood has been wondering how to revive lifeguards in red swimsuits. In 2026, it will be with a new series Baywatch, a sequel which will follow the adventures of Hobie Buchannon!

If this name resonates in the ears of forty-year-olds, it is because little Hobie was the son of David Hasselhoff aka Mitch Buchannon, in the cult series.

Hobie was first played by Brandon Call, then by Jeremy Jackson, who played the character for many seasons. The boy has grown up well. And in this new series, Stephen Amell will take over the role!

The former DC Arrow has just been cast to put on red shorts and run on the famous Californian beach, all muscles out, thus succeeding David Charvet of all kinds.

Hobie Buchannon is described as “the rebellious kid we all loved in the original series”, now a lifeguard captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch. “Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, his own daughter he never knew existed, shows up at his home, determined to carry on the Buchannon legacy by becoming a lifeguard alongside her father.”

A little drama, nostalgia, a sexy cast rushing towards the waves in slow motion: the Baywatch cocktail is there.

Stephen Amell is the first casting name confirmed for the series. He will be the star, and around him, the production wishes to introduce new faces, like Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra in the heyday. An audition open to the public is scheduled for February 18, while filming is scheduled to begin this spring in Los Angeles.

“From our first chat, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity and that undeniable heroic energy,” says showrunner Matt Nix. “He’s the type of leader who can rush into danger, carry the emotional weight and make it all fun. We can’t wait to get started.”

A great chance for a revival for Stephen Amell, who is coming out of a complicated period after the cancellation of the short-lived spin-off of Suits in Los Angeles…

For now, the new series Baywatch has been officially signed for the 2026-2027 TV season with an order for 12 episodes. It should be broadcast from the end of the year on Fox in the United States (while waiting for a French broadcaster).
