Stranger Things: these inconsistencies in the finale that annoy fans
But where have the Demogorgons gone? Several curious developments caused reactions on the networks. The Duffers justify themselves.
You miss a Demogorgon…
The biggest frustration for Stranger Things fans after this finale is the total absence of demogorgons, but also demodogs and other demobats! These iconic creatures of the series are not in the last episode, while the final battle raged in the heart of the Abyss. After five seasons of establishing these creatures as absolute threats, many experienced their sudden disappearance as a mistake. Why didn’t Vecna and especially the Mind Flayer unleash their army of monsters at the decisive moment? Interviewed by TheWrap, Matt and Ross Duffer tried to justify this strange choice. And their explanation may not help anything. In their view, Vecna was taken aback by the surprise attack of Eleven and her friends, unable, he thought, to infiltrate the Abyss. “He absolutely did not expect this. He never imagined that they could get this far,” explains Matt Duffer. The creators also put forward a narrative argument: faced with a gigantic Mind Flayer, Vecna did not need his “ants”, preferring to face his enemies himself. They acknowledge, however, that an initial version of the finale, designed to last nearly three hours, included a battle of demogorgons and even a field of Aliens-style eggs. Abandoned to avoid “demo fatigue”, they suggest, this decision today leaves a bitter taste in part of the public…
Hopper and Joyce forgot Henry
Another point that upsets some Stranger Things fans after the season 5 finale: the total absence of a scene where Hopper and Joyce realize that Vecna, aka Henry Creel, is in fact their former high school friend. Yet a capital revelation… especially since it was developed in the play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which is performed in London and New York. A spin-off which is part of the mythology, but seen by a minority of the public. This is why this link is never addressed in the series. In Variety, Matt and Ross Duffer admit that the question arose, but that they voluntarily gave up any explicit scene. Their fear: losing or frustrating spectators who have not seen the play. “We had to walk a very fine line. A lot of the audience doesn’t have access to the show, and talking about it on screen would have been confusing,” explains Ross Duffer. The creators nevertheless assure that this discussion did take place… off-camera. Matt Duffer specifies that the final season had to function exactly as if the room did not exist, it only serving to enrich Henry’s past after his contact with the Mind Flayer…

How did Max get his diploma?
The girl is one of the students honored on Hawkins High School’s graduation day. Like Mike, Lucas, Dustin and Will, she finished school and obtained the American equivalent of the baccalaureate. But how did Max graduate with everyone else? Because you have to remember that she remained in a coma for two years (after season 4)! Stuck in a hospital bed, she missed two full years of school, not to mention her already poor grades before the accident. For many fans, this remains a completely implausible mystery of the finale.

Dr. Kay is useless
The presence of Linda Hamilton made old Stranger Things fans salivate. But his role in the final season was much less important than expected. A needlessly annoying character, supposed to take over from Dr. Brenner, the terrible Dr. Kay will remain like a big loser at the end. So much so that she disappeared as if by magic at the same time as Eleven… Without ever explaining to us her obsession with El, her ambitions, her motivations. Poof! She left Hawkins with the rest of the military and just… gave up? The American army will have really done anything – we are led to suppose that the Cold War against the USSR justified everything – in this season 5.
Most pointless character in TV history award goes to….. Dr Kay #StrangerThings5 pic.twitter.com/dmug1N7O2e

Hopper and Nancy killed American soldiers right?
Finally, we don’t want to be nitpicky, but how come Hopper and Nancy are never troubled by the law? The two gunned down dozens of soldiers, men and women of the U.S. Army on official (though certainly secret) missions in Hawkins. So Uncle Sam decided to give up for political reasons? To avoid drawing attention to Dr. Kay’s illegal actions? Hopper should have ended his life in prison, and Nancy too. But the finale of Stranger Things – obviously – preferred a happy ending…
What the fuck happened to Dr Kay and the rest of the military? They just left like nothing happened? Why isn’t Hopper and Nancy in prison for killing members of the military!!? #StrangersThings5 pic.twitter.com/QggWrksqXE
