The finale of Stranger Things is a box office hit in American cinemas
The latest episode of the Netflix series was released in more than 350 theaters in North America for 24 hours. Results: almost 28 million dollars in revenue!
At a time when Netflix is preparing to buy the Hollywood cinema giant Warner Bros., this is a figure that seems like an astonishing paradox: Stranger Things brought in between 25 and 28 million dollars in theaters, thanks to the broadcast of the final episode.
More than 350 cinemas in North America screened the very last episode of the cult series on December 31, 2025 and January 1, 2026. More than 3,500 screenings in more than 620 cinemas were sold out.
The actual box office of the event is complicated to assess, due to very variable prices depending on the operators. AMC and Cinemark, for example, charged $20 in the form of a voucher for drinks, while Regal Cinemas and other operators offered a rate of $11, a nod to the supernatural character played by Millie Bobby Brown.
AMC says it generated $15 million from more than 753,000 viewers who purchased dining credits. The group represented a little more than a third of the total number of theaters concerned.
On Friday, Adam Aron, boss of AMC, suggested that Netflix could increase this type of theatrical operations. “At AMC, we are very excited to bring more Netflix content to viewers,” he said. “Our collaboration on our two recent projects has been smooth, creative and without a hitch. It is therefore no surprise that we have already entered into active discussions about other Netflix programs that could be projected on our giant screens.”
