Happy New Year!
And two. After The Three Musketeers, The Count of Monte Cristo : the adaptations of Dumas follow one another. Normal, after all: these two monuments perfectly summarize how the novelist was undoubtedly the first screenwriter in the history of popular cinema. A master of dialogue, a genius of twists and descriptions, an ace of relaunch, Dumas knew how to compose stories that functioned like storyboards, and his art of cutting was already that of editing. Which does not mean that we should simply transcribe his errant prose.
Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière confirm this to us: there will be some betrayals, some shortcuts and radical biases in their film. Their advantage? Pierre Niney, who has everything to make an exceptional Dantès (his elegance, his tension and his muffled or explosive violence). It will be an event in 2024, but it is far from the only one: the return of George Miller, Dune: Part Two, Phew Love by Gilles Lellouche, The Empire (azimuth) by Bruno Dumont or Emmanuelle… We have chosen to highlight the most exciting films of the year ahead. And in this regard, the entire editorial team joins me in wishing you the most beautiful and happiest.
