Task will return for a season 2, Mark Ruffalo returns
HBO officially announces a sequel for FBI Agent Tom Brandis.
He did not follow up with Mare of Easttown. But Brad Ingelsby is going to do a season 2 of Task.
It’s official: the crime series is renewed by HBO, with Mark Ruffalo returning as FBI agent Tom Brandis. The announcement came this Thursday in New York, via Casey Bloys, boss of HBO and HBO Max.
Creator and showrunner Brad Ingelsby immediately welcomed the renewal: “We have been fortunate to have the unwavering support of HBO from the first script, through production and through to the exceptional launch of Season 1. It is a creative home like no other. On behalf of the entire team, in front of and behind the camera, I am honored and eager to return to work for a second season.”

Launched in September, the first season delighted critics and audiences: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, audience growth week after week, and a dense cast around Ruffalo, notably marked by the epic performances of Tom Pelphrey and Emilia Jones.
On the HBO side, the enthusiasm is total. Francesca Orsi, VP of programming, drives home the point: “We knew even before launch that we had a powerful series on our hands. Brad Ingelsby balances deeply human writing and explosive narrative mechanics. We have no doubt that he will hit just as hard — and just as addictively — in season 2.”
It remains to be seen what Season 2 of Task will be about. For the moment, no release date mentioned.
