The author of The Maid reveals her true identity

Freida McFadden is tired of hiding: her real name is Sara Cohen!

New twist. But this time, it doesn’t play out on the pages.

The author behind The Housekeeper (The Housemaid), global hit recently brought to the screen with Sydney Sweeney, has finally revealed his true identity after years of speculation.

Known under the pseudonym Freida McFadden, her real name is Sara Cohen. Information confirmed in an interview given to USA Today this April 8. A doctor specializing in brain disorders, she has until now led a perfectly controlled double life.

To preserve anonymity, McFadden used a whole system: pseudonym, wig, glasses. A way of radically separating his two careers, started in 2013 with The Devil Wears Scrubsand to avoid any interference with his job at the hospital.

“I’ve gotten to a point where I’m tired of it being a secret.”she explains today. “Tired of people wondering if I’m a real person or three men. I’m real, I have a real identity and I have nothing to hide.”

If the glasses are indeed his, the wig is for a much simpler reason: “I don’t know how to do my hair!”. Behind the anecdote, a heavier reality. The author eased off on medicine at the end of 2023, saying “completely outdated” by this double life.

His plan was clear: wait for the right moment to speak, without compromising his work. A strategy that held… until his colleagues discovered the truth. Without scandal, quite the contrary.

Today, she assures that this revelation does not change anything essential: “Although the name may be surprising, nothing else will change. I have always been sincere with my readers.”
