The Boys: “I know for a fact that Frenchie doesn’t speak French well…”
Showrunner Eric Kripke admits to being perfectly aware of Frenchie’s accent in the series. But…
He has been the “French” of Butcher’s team for four years. Even more than in past years, Frenchie has fun jabbering a few words in the language of Molière – especially when he speaks to his dear and tender Kimiko – in season 4 of The Boys. And for the French public, it’s still so complicated not to smile every time Frenchie speaks in French.
And for good reason, it’s the Israeli actor, Tomer Kapon, who embodies the character of French origin in the comics (he is actually called Le Français dans la BD). And the showrunner Eric Kripke admits to knowing for a while that Frenchie’s French is not quite perfect:
“Yes, I know for a fact that he doesn’t speak French very well… I know, I know… But Tomer (Kapon) is Israeli and he does a remarkable job with this character“, insists Eric Kripke for Première with a broad smile. Without dwelling on the subject, he concludes immediately:
“So I thank the French public for their patience with Frenchie’s accent!”
Season 4 of The Boys will continue this Thursday on Prime Video.
