The piano accident: a cruel and misanthropic comedy (critic)
Adèle Exéréehapolous denies as an internet star entangled in a dirty business. The most “Östlundian” film by Quentin Dupieux
A catchy pitch, an irresistible first quarter of an hour, brilliant actors … and then the machine that flu and gives the feeling of shooting the line. The piano accident Check all the DNA DNA boxes of Dupieux cinema. But a fairly exciting dupieux when he arises at a time when after having sparked the almost unanimous enthusiasm for the critics for years, discordant voices were heard during his previous film, The second actpresented at the opening of Cannes. Unaccustomed, we had felt annoyed him against First which, however, had defended it but having undoubtedly committed the crime of the majority of not having praised it sufficiently. Maybe we’ll want us to say that The piano accident is the best of the four films he has just devoted to the question of celebrity after Yannick,, Daaaaaaali! and that Second act. And yet, we think. First thanks to Adèle Exarchopoulos and its denial composition of the central character of the film: an internet star insensitive to pain whose spectacular videos make millions of views and which finds itself the target of blackmail after an accident on a shoot. Already well perched in Mandiblesit explodes here all the meters with disconcerting ease. As for Dupieux, by saving almost none of his characters – in your choice: selfish, veule, stupid … – he signs his most openly misanthropic film. A cruel comedy at La Ruben Östlund which makes an arm of honor in his time but without ever appearing reacts’. Everything except simple.
