A new "fresh and exotic" James Bond: new producers are at work

The small amount Amazon paid for creative control over James Bond

It’s much less than we initially thought…

A trifle for the American giant.

Amazon officially took creative control of the James Bond franchise earlier this year — and Jeff Bezos didn’t need to break the bank to get it done.

At the time we were talking about a billion dollars… We are far from it in reality. According to a financial report from Eon Productions, the company of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, Amazon would have paid 20 million dollars to buy their shares and the rights associated with the saga, as well as the subsidiaries B24 Limited and B25 Limited, and thus take total creative control of 007.

Variety, which obtained the documents, quotes:

“On February 20, 2025, the Company entered into an agreement for the sale of its interests in the Bond franchise, all associated assets as well as its subsidiaries B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total amount of the transaction is $20 million (USD)”.

If the sum seems modest compared to the symbolic and commercial value of 007, it could only represent part of the deal: the report says nothing about possible bonuses, stock options or profit sharing agreements.

The agreement formalizes the creation of a joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios, Broccoli and Wilson, the three parties remaining co-owners of the franchise, but with Amazon now alone in creative control – a historic turning point for a saga long protected by its original producers.

The next James Bond film 26, still kept secret, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders.
