The VF teaser for Shrek 5 reveals the new French voice of Donkey
If Eddie Murphy returns to the original version, it was necessary to find a successor to Med Hondo, who died in 2019.
Released a few days ago, the first trailer for Shrek 5 showed the return of the green ogre from DreamWorks, surrounded by his entire little family… and his best friend despite himself, the Donkey.
We obviously found the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz in the original version. But we had to wait a few days before discovering the teaser dubbed in French. Universal France has just put it online, confirming the return of Alain Chabat in the role of Shrek.
The video above all allows you to discover the new French voice of the Donkey: it will be Lucien Jean-Baptiste. The actor and director of The First Star And He already has your eyes is a regular at dubbing. Throughout his career, he has notably lent his voice to Chris Rock, Kevin Hart and Martin Lawrence.
He succeeds Med Hondo, official French voice of Eddie Murphy for more than thirty years. He played Donkey in the first four films. Shrekbefore his death in 2019. Since then, Christophe Peyroux had become the French voice of Eddie Murphy in his most recent films, but it is therefore not him who takes up the cult DreamWorks character.
We imagine that Lucien Jean-Baptiste will continue the adventure in the derivative film dedicated to Donkey, announced by DreamWorks a few weeks ago.
The trailer begins with a look back at the events of the first Shrekbefore Donkey decides it’s time to modernize the story. The opportunity to discover a slightly reworked animation style for this new adventure, which will obviously take us to the sordid streets of a big city, like 19th century London. There is notably a snowman who parodies Olaf from The Snow Queen… The images end with an embarrassing situation to say the least: Shrek, Fiona, their children and Donkey all find themselves behind bars. While the Donkey sings Baby Come Back Then Roxannemuch to Shrek’s despair. In short, nothing has fundamentally changed.
Shrek 5directed by Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, will be released in cinemas on June 30, 2027 in France.
