Keanu Reeves in new Netflix action film
The John Wick star will replace Alan Ritchson (Reacher) in Maelstrom, an action thriller directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Carry-On).
Keanu Reeves doesn’t plan to put away his weapons.
The actor of John Wick will be the star of Maelstroma new Netflix action film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, to whom we notably owe Carry-Onthe thriller released last winter on the platform, with Taron Egerton in an airport, became the third most watched film in the history of Netflix.
Keanu Reeves reprises the role originally intended for Alan Ritchson, star of Reacherwho left the project for an as yet unknown reason.
The story takes place over a single night, as a hurricane hits the region. A federal marshal is tasked with protecting the fiancée of an arms dealer, who is about to testify against him as part of a witness protection program. But the storm cuts communications with the outside world and prevents reinforcements from arriving. The marshal and his protégé must then confront the trafficker’s henchmen, while dealing with the natural disaster that is unleashed around them.
A closed session under high tension, which should offer Keanu Reeves a new playground. The screenplay, a first version of which was written by Gregory Fitzpatrick, now deceased, is reworked by Mark Bianculli (How to Rob a Bank).
The project has a long history behind it. Netflix is in fact relaunching a script that had been sold to Warner Bros. in 1993 by producer Jeff Robinov, then an agent in Hollywood.
The filming date and release of Maelstrom have not yet been announced.
