These questions that remain unanswered at the end of The Boys

Stan Edgar, the young people of Gen V, Queen Maeve, the virus…

Prime Video’s flagship series has just ended. And yet, some questions still remain unanswered. While waiting to see what the rest of The Boys franchise will bring, we take stock of these intrigues left unresolved… Spoiler alert!

What will Vought’s Stan Edgar do?

This is the big twist of the epilogue: the former CEO regains his place at the top of the Tower. What will he do now with the enormous conglomerate that dominates the world? Has he learned from his past mistakes? Has he become virtuous? We can doubt it…

What happens to the Supes of the world?

After the American administration regained control of the White House, Robert Singer, who became President, immediately relaunched the Office of Superhuman Affairs. Hughie refused to direct it. But obviously someone will be needed to supervise the many “heroes” with powerful powers who travel the world. A new Homelander could well be hiding among them. Especially since they will no longer be totally controlled by Vought. “Stan Edgar takes over Vought but more or less gives up his relationships with superheroes, so all these Supes who have been protected and pampered for years suddenly find themselves left to their own devices in the wild. Who will try to become a Jessica Jones? Who will become a supervillain? It opens up fascinating possibilities…”, said creator Eric Kripke in his interview after the finale.

What happens to the virus?

It will be recalled that Butcher stuffed the Vought Tower fire network with the strain of the deadly virus that can kill all Supes. Did anyone clean up after Homelander’s death? And is the government keeping the virus in check just in case?

What will happen to Soldier Boy?

We left the first American superhero where we discovered him: in a cryogenic locker. On break. He will wake up one day. After all, he is immortal… But in the meantime, it is his past that will be explored in the prequel series Vought Rising, which will be released in 2027 on Prime Video.

What will become of Marie Moreau and the young people of Gen V?

“The torch passes from Annie to Marie Moreau! She has become the new positive superhero,” Kripke quickly analyzes, to explain the place of the God U students in this finale of The Boys. But the spin-off having been canceled, we don’t really know if we’ll ever see them again. We’ll have to imagine that Marie and her friends are still there, dispensing justice in post-Homelander America.

Where did Queen Maeve go?

His trajectory officially stopped in season 3 of The Boys, after the loss of his powers following the explosion caused by Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). In the process, she disappeared from circulation, leaving the public to believe she was dead. In reality, the character has chosen to live in the shadows, without powers, far from the tumult of the Supes. But the series doesn’t really give any concrete news about her future after the fall of Homelander: has she rebuilt her life? Started a family? Found a job? A notable absence, which showrunner Eric Kripke commented on: “I would have loved to have Maeve. I spoke with Dominique McElligott. We still send each other emails from time to time. She is mostly retired from filming, and her schedule didn’t work out. I asked her: ‘If we write something, will you come back?’ And she told me that she was a little out of all that…”

Will Hughie and Starlight’s baby have powers?

This is obviously the ultimate question that torments the fans at the end. In the epilogue sequence, several months after the fall of Homelander and the death of Butcher, Hughie and Starlight await a happy event: a girl named Robin, in homage to Hughie’s ex-girlfriend who died in the first episode (yes, it’s doubtful, but hey…).

Asked about the fate of this baby, Eric Kripke recalls the biological rules specific to Supes:

“The only superhero born with powers is Ryan. All the others were injected,” he says. He adds: “I like to think that Hughie and Starlight have learned their lesson and are going to give Robin a normal, happy life without powers.”

In other words, Hughie and Starlight’s child should not inherit Annie’s light powers, or any other superhuman abilities.
