V for Vendetta will become a series at HBO

Twenty years after the film, Warner Bros. wants a new adaptation of the comics.

The icon disguised as Guy Fawkes will remake the revolution.

According to Variety, HBO is currently developing a series V for Vendetta, adapted from the cult comic imagined by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. The project is still in development, but it already brings together heavyweights.

According to the magazine’s sources, Pete Jackson is responsible for writing the series. Executive production side: James Gunn and Peter Safran for DC Studios, Ben Stephenson via Poison Pen, as well as Leanne Klein of Wall to Wall Media, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK. All produced by Warner Bros. Television. HBO and DC are currently refusing any comment.

V for Vendetta began in 1982 in the British anthology Warrior, before being picked up by DC in 1988. The story is set in a dystopian Britain ruled by the fascist Norsefire party. A masked anarchist, V – famous for his Guy Fawkes mask – tries to overthrow the regime, helped by Evey Hammond, a young woman he saved from the clutches of the secret police.

The HBO project would be in line with the DC Studios adaptations which land on the premium channel. We think in particular of The Penguin, a direct spin-off of The Batman by Matt Reeves, with Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, which won nine Emmy Awards. Next on the list: Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, due in early 2026.

Obviously, the comic had already been adapted in 2005 in the film V for Vendetta, directed by James McTeigue, written by the Wachowskis, with Hugo Weaving in the role of V and Natalie Portman as Evey. Critical and public success, more than $130 million at the worldwide box office. Warner Bros. plans to release the film in theaters in November 2026 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
