There is going to be a Far Cry series and it will be on Disney +
Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley will be at the helm, along with Rob McElhenney.
Long talked about, the Far Cry series will indeed see the light of day.
It is the FX channel which has just ordered this adaptation of the cult video game from Ubisoft, and it has entrusted the controls to Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney – who now calls himself Rob Mac. The first is the creator of the Fargo series, and more recently of the excellent Alien: Earth. The second is behind the sitcom Philadelphia and the Apple series Mythic Quest.
He will also play in this Far Cry series which will be broadcast on Disney+ internationally.
As in the games, the series will adopt an anthological format: new cast, new location, new tropical nightmare (or other) each season. A promise that fits perfectly with the DNA of the license.
“Working alongside Noah Hawley is a dream come true,” says Mac. “Ubisoft trusted us with one of the most iconic universes in video games. And FX continues to support me like no other.”
Noah Hawley is also delighted: “What I like about the Far Cry franchise is the idea of an anthology,” explains the creator. “Each game explores a variation of the same theme. Like Fargo. To create a great action series that reinvents itself every year while exploring human nature in its purest chaos… it’s a dream.”
This Far Cry – which does not yet have a release date – will be the first live-action adaptation of the video game in series. Until now, the saga was entitled to a DTV film by Uwe Boll in 2008 and went largely unnoticed.
Launched in 2004, the Far Cry franchise has six main games, a multitude of spin-offs and over 100 million unique players worldwide.
