What the first pages of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day script reveal
New costume, opening scene and other details revealed.
It’s a new Spider-Man (aka Peter Parker) who takes shape between the pages of the script.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton delivers a handwritten nugget for fans of the saga. While a few weeks ago, the trailer for the 4th part of the franchise Spider-Manexceeded a billion views, confirming the public’s enthusiasm for this sequel, the filmmaker planned to launch his film with a fight scene as an opening, nine months after Peter Parker. Facing various problems, the young man moved into an apartment alone, as revealed in the three pages that the American director and screenwriter, Destin Daniel Cretton, shared with Entertainment Weekly.
Lines that also describe how Peter survives the blip, reading his letter to Mary Jane. Shortly after, he is seen hanging upside down on a steel beam above New York. The police scanner on his phone alerts him that a SWAT team is heading toward an incident:
“He lowers his mask, dropping to the edge. He webs and darts as the music begins to play and we… START THE VIDEO MONTAGE”explains Cretton.
These pages confirm what the trailer already suggested: a return to rural heroism for the legendary Marvel superhero. no multiverse portals or technological interventions from Stark on the horizon, only Peter responding alone to the city’s crimes.
But that’s not all: Spider-Man has a new look. Without access to Tony Stark’s resources, the boy also builds his own suit.
Cretton emphasizes in his annotations that “all his technology must have been made by himself.” Spider-Man’s new costume reflects this constraint. Inspired by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s variations, it features “real fabric, seams, folds“. Peter’s in-house manufacturer is none other than “3D printer on steroids, something that could be made by a genius kid with limited funds.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 29 in cinemas in France.
