When Jamie Lee Curtis is asked what phase the MCU is in, she doesn’t mince words.

“Bad,” jokes the Halloween actress, who has had a friendly feud with Marvel for several years.

Jamie Lee Curtis will be on the bill next week Borderlandsan adaptation of the homonymous video game saga directed by Eli Rothand which she shares the bill with Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black And Ariana Greenblatt. With the film set to be released on August 7 (August 9 in the US), the film’s team headed to the 2024 edition of San Diego Comic-Con to present a united promotional front.

The opportunity for the actress to happily take part in a question and answer game at the microphone ofEntertainment Weekly. When asked what phase the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in (related, surely, to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine at the cinema this month), she responds, straight away: “A bad”. Enough to provoke general hilarity.

This isn’t the first time Jamie Lee Curtis has gently poked fun at the MCU. In 2022, as her standalone film Everything Everywhere All at Once a hit in theaters, the actress took to her Instagram account to comment on the arrival of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters, direct competitor of “little” Daniels film.

“Is it just me or is it STRANGE that our little movie that managed to be and still is #1 in the US and is REALLY MARVELOUS, is outperforming every Marvel movie that Marvel puts out? Everything Everywhere will face a copycat from Marvel? Is this one of those “feud” of the internet? All I can say is that we could SLAY Family Feud against the strangers of Doctor Strange.”

Later, when interviewed by the magazine Peopleshe explained her remarks:

“I have nothing against Marvel as an entity. I’ve seen a lot of Marvel movies. What I meant was that Everything Everywhere All at Once was a small film that was able to tell a multiverse story that really touched people. It doesn’t have to be a Marvel movie to be a spectacle and really move you.”

Today, his latest comment makes even more sense as it seems that Marvel is indeed in a complicated phase. Deadpool/Wade Wilson thus mocks Disney several times in Deadpool & Wolverinereleased a few days ago: “It’s not the best time to join us”reveals to Wolverine the self-proclaimed “Marvel Jesus” during the movie.

Besides, this is what the release of the film was supposed to help with Shawn Levy : to get Marvel out of a bad patch, accentuated by the ambient feeling of a “superhero fatigue”the flops of Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania And The Marvelsand the debacle of the domestic violence conviction of Jonathan Mayorswho was set to play the franchise’s next big villain Avengers.

In numbers, it works: Deadpool 3 rises to the category of Marvel’s biggest hits, and Kevin Feige took advantage of this respite to announce big surprises coming soon during Comic-Con. But will it be enough to truly get Marvel out of this “bad” phase as Jamie Lee Curtis calls it?

Since then, the actress has apologized for this scathing comment… once again with all the irony that is typical of her:

“My comments about Marvel were stupid and I’m going to work on thatshe wrote on X. I have reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in this competitive sandbox called the Internet. I will also not engage in promoting toilet paper or in gaming that is designed for clicks and not content.”

What Ryan Reynolds himself answered: “Wait, everyone is supposed to apologize for criticizing Marvel post-Endgame ?”

Or when a king and queen of overbidding meet…
