Swann Arlaud as a man of the woods in Sukkwan island: trailer
A father and son confronted with hostile nature.
Almost ten years after his last film, French director Vladimir de Fontenay is back with a feature film in line with his previous ones, taking as its theme his favorite subject: the teenager confronted with an extreme or atypical family situation.
Adapted from the short story by James Franco, Memoriatold the story of a pre-adolescent on the margins, stuck in an unstable family climate: between a stepfather incapable of forming a relationship with him, and a mother in the background.
In Mobile HolmesAli faced Evan, the dangerous junkie boyfriend of her young mother, a drug dealer and struggling to get by.
If his previous productions offered 100% Anglo-Saxon prestige castings (James Franco, Imogen Poots and Callum Turner), this time we will find on the poster of Sukkwan Island the famous French actor Swann Arlaud. The film is however shot in English. A language in which he has already distinguished himself in the 2023 Palme d’or, Anatomy of a fall, or in the film by Stéphane Demoustier, The Unknown of the Grande Arche.
Synopsis: Tom takes his thirteen-year-old son to live for a year on an isolated island in the Far North. This return to wild life in the heart of majestic nature allows them to find themselves. But extreme conditions and isolation put their relationship to the test.
The film will be released on April 29 in French theaters. Trailer:
