When will Alexandre Astier make Kaamelott – Third part? “I want to be an old king…”
The creator of Kaamelott shares his thoughts on the rest of the saga.
The first part of Kaamelott – Second part has been in theaters for a few days, and fans will have to wait a year to see part 2, scheduled for November 11, 2026. The saga started 20 years ago, and at this rate we are not ready to see its conclusion. As Alexandre Astier explains to us in the new issue of Firstcurrently on newsstands:
“It might even take us beyond my funeral, which is not practical! And there, guys, it’s not me who decides. The release date of KV2 part 2 is not the one I would have wanted, let’s be very clear. I wanted there to be about four or five months between the two films, but I shout enough about certain subjects not to shout about others – like how to sell a film or deciding when it will be released..”
But, beyond the release schedule imposed by the distributor, which responds to industrial imperatives, there is the question of the will of its author. At this stage, the construction site Kaamelott – Third Partwhich also has the potential to span several films, has not started at all. Astier himself is not sure what he wants to do. Obviously, you will have to be patient to see the quest for the Grail in the cinema.
“I don’t know if I’ll shoot 3 after 2. Maybe I’ll do something else. Theater, another film, a series, I don’t know. In any case, it means a lot to me to look elsewhere. Kaamelott is only part of things. I like that people get older, that the wheel turns. It’s quite crazy, in fact, to write for a knight who is 6 or 7 years old when he shows up at the table, then who you find at 14 years old.
Before creating the third part, it is important that time has passed. Well, here, I have already collected a lot, but I plan to collect even more, to be an old king in 3. The last one, he will benefit the most from arriving late. Well, if people are still interested!“
Kaamelott – Second part (part 1) got off to a good start at the French box office on Wednesday, but not as much as the First part which ended its career at 2.6 million admissions in complicated circumstances, in the era of Covid and the health pass. We will still have to wait a few days, or even a few weeks, to find out if the first part of KV2 is a real popular success.
