12 years later, Guy Ritchie returns to Sherlock… but without Robert Downey Jr
No Sherlock 3 for the British director, who prefers a Young Sherlock TV series.
It's been more than ten years since fans of Robert Downey Jr. wait to see Sherlock 3. But Shadow games (2012) is not close to having a sequel. Because Guy Ritchie seems to have decided to take another path with Conan Doyle's famous detective. The filmmaker is currently working on a series Young Sherlock Holmeswhich will be streamed on Prime Video.
According to Variety, Amazon has officially ordered what will be an adaptation of the novels Young Sherlock Holmes by Andy Lane. As its name suggests, it will be a story focused on the young years of Sherlock. An “origin story” which will not be carried by Robert Downey Jr. (obviously), but Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
Nephew of Ralph Fiennes and Joseph Fiennes, the 26-year-old English actor revealed himself in the saga After on Prime Video, before starring alongside Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Guy Ritchie's latest film (not yet released in France). Ironically, Henry Cavill already plays (!) Sherlock Holmes in another saga dedicated to the youth… of Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown), his little sister, on Netflix!
This new series will be an action series”on the origin of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved detective in an explosive reimagining of this iconic character” teases the synopsis. “At 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered and untrained, when he finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery at Oxford University that threatens his freedom. Diving into his very first case with a lack With total discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”
It's unclear if this series is meant to be a prequel to the films Sherlock of Guy Ritchie and if it will make a connection with the two feature films. The director just says: “In Young Sherlock, we'll see an exciting new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they've never imagined before. We'll uncover this enigmatic character, discover what motivates him, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.”
Young Sherlock Holmes will be written and produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill. No release date yet.
