How was mytho born Serge: Jonathan Cohen remembers
While Serge has just switched to Disney Plus, the actor returns to the accidental birth of the inveterate chat, imagined with his friend Kyan Khojandi.
But where will he get all this? We all asked ourselves the question before Serge the mythoprofessional blabulator that marked The Grand Journal In 2016, a few weeks after being born in Blockedbetween Orelsan and Gringe. While the two series are now available in full on Disney Plus, Jonathan Cohen tells the creation of the character.
Guest of the Séries Mania 2025 festival, the 44-year-old actor admits that he does not really know how he had the idea of doing the mytho: “Serge really appeared to know where … “ He reveals in the process the day he started playing the voluble liar:
“Kyan (Khojandi), at one point after brief, had no apartment ‘and he lived at home. Every night we laughed, we said anything. And then, there is a mytho that started to emerge. Even not Serge or anything. Just me who says bullshit for hours.”
Shortly after, Kyan Khojandi launches the series Blocked On Canal +: ‘And there he calls me and asks me to redo the slightly mytho type that I was doing in the apartment between us! He invites me on the set, I arrive with my clothes, not even styled. Kyan presents me Orelsan and Gringe. And he said to me, ‘You do what you want!’ So I left for 40 minutes of non-stop improvisation. In verlan, saying “brother” all the time. And he came out like that Serge. “
Jonathan Cohen admits that Serge surely exists somewhere in him, even if he has never gone so far in anything:
“It’s true, because I was a little mytho too, when I was little. And then I met a lot of guys like that, where I lived in Pantin.” What the actor especially loves is bullshit. The common point between Serge, Marc (of The flame) or Fuckin ‘Fred, it is the stupidity of the characters.
He says: “Above all, I have a passion for bullshit. I have a passion for idiots – because I believe that I am too – in the way they were architectured in US comedy, and in particular in The Office with Steve Carell. The story of this very stupid guy, who always has bright guards around him who remind him how stupid everything he says … It is really the archetype of Michael Scott in The Office“, analysis Jonathan Cohen By quoting his references. “It’s the same profile that we also find at Will Ferrellin the American comedy of the 2000s, with Ricky Bobby Or The Anchorman.“”
Still, to embody Serge the mythoit takes a large part of improv, an exercise that requires a lot of instinct, making the character difficult to do on demand. Like when Kyan Khojandi asked Jonathan Cohen to bring out Serge for a scene of In short 2 ::
“In In short 2Kyan asked me to do a little Serge the mythofor a scene in a restaurant. And there it was hard! The engine was very cold. I really struggled. It took me a while to find the pace and find Serge … “
