The 2023 Emmys will overlap with the Golden Globes in January 2024
The strike forces the Academy to postpone the ceremony for 4 months.
While the ceremony was to take place on September 18 in Los Angeles, the strike which is paralyzing Hollywood these days forces the academy of Emmy Awards to revise their plans. The Fox channel announces today that it will finally take place four months late.
THE 75th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Monday January 15, 2024 in prime time, (it’s a public holiday, Martin Luther King Day across the Atlantic). A new date which is not without asking some questions. Because the 2023 Emmys now find themselves smack dab in the middle of winter reward season…between Golden Globes 2024 and the Oscars 2024.
THE Creative Arts Emmy Awards – the long technical awards ceremony held a week ahead of the main ceremony – will thus take place on Saturday January 6 and Sunday January 7 (they were originally scheduled for September 9 and 10). But it’s the weekend Golden Globe Awards !
THE Golden Globes are used to being held on the second weekend of the new year and the 2024 ceremony has long been scheduled for January 7. The fact remains that the academy of foreign journalists in Hollywood – which deals with Golden Globes – is in the midst of a crisis and does not even have a broadcaster for the moment. It could therefore stand in a closed circle, at the same time as the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
