“We allow ourselves everything”: The superb music of the Count of Monte Cristo deciphered by its composer
How can we transcribe Edmond Dantès’ obsession without falling into repetition? This was Jérôme Rebotier’s challenge on this soundtrack… and he met it with flying colors.
Since The Count of Monte Cristo (back this Sunday on Canal +) is a hit at the cinema, Pierre Niney posts on his social networks photos and videos behind the scenes: makeup sessions, organization of the Parisian preview, actors having fun between two scenes… The actor also insisted on the quality of the film’s soundtrack, composed by Jérôme Rebotierby sharing with his fans an extract from one of his main themes: “Edmond and Mercedes”.

A sweet music which punctuates the beginning of the love story between the two heroes, before Dantès is betrayed, imprisoned, and he plots his revenge.
From this romantic tune, Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière asked their faithful composer (Rebotier had already worked with them on The First Name, An Illustrious Unknown, The Best is Yet to Come…) to take up a challenge: to make sure to musically illustrate the obsession of their protagonist without sinking into repetition.
