The director of Freaky Friday is disgusted not to have been recalled for the future
“Unfortunately, I was not invited to the party” regrets Mark Waters about Freaky Friday 2, currently in theaters.
More than twenty years later, Freaky Friday 2 Finally, brings together Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Fans are delighted to find not only the two stars, but also several familiar faces of the 2003 film, such as Chad Michael Murray, Stephen Tobolowsky and even Ryan Malgarini, who had left the profession and agreed to return to embody the son of Curtis once again.
A big absent however: Mark Waters, the director of the first Freaky Friday. The film had been a turning point in his career, opening the doors of success like Mean Girls (always with Lohan) and Mr. Popper and his penguins. But for this sequel, entrusted to Nisha Ganatra on a scenario of Jordan Weiss, Waters was not even contacted.
In an interview at Varietyhe does not hide his bitterness:
“Unfortunately, I was not invited to the party. However, I raised my hand by saying that I would like to be involved in one way or another, even just as a sponsor or executive producer. But I did not receive an invitation.”
However, Mark Waters wants to be a beautiful player and wishes the best to Freaky Friday 2which will have a hard time doing more than $ 100 million in world box office revenue … far enough from its score (163 million for the first part):
“I’m very happy that they are making a new film. It would have been nice to participate, but since it is not the case, I compartmentalize. I prefer to devote my energy to create new original things, that people may be able to redo in 20 years … We cannot dwell on the projects that we do not do. It would have been fun, for sure, and moreover, several actors wrote to me during the shooting:” Where are you? ” I have not abandoned you!
