K 2000 at the cinema: Cobra Kai creators driving a new film project

Hollywood has been around for an adaptation to the cinema of the cult series for more than a decade. What if this time was the right one?

“The exploits of a lonely knight in a dangerous world, the knight and his mount.”

After having adapted a film from the 1980s in series – in this case Karate Kid – The creators of Cobra Kai are preparing to double the opposite direction: they will adapt a cult series from the 1980s to film!

K 2000 marked an entire generation. And the Knight of Modern Times and his talking car are preparing to return to the big screen.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the trio behind the world success of Cobra Kai, are in advanced negotiations with Universal Pictures to write and produce a Knight Rider film (the title of K 2000 in VO)

Hurwitz and Schlossberg could also carry out the project, while the whole would be under the banner of their company Counterbalance Entertainment.

For the moment, the scenario remains secret, even if a first throw had been entrusted to Kevin Burrows (The Pickup) and Matt Mider (The Package).

The legendary Kitt saga has already experienced several feedback: two TV movies in the 1990s (Knight Rider 2000 and Knight Rider 2010) were produced, as well as a spin-off entitled Team Knight Rider (1997), canceled after only 22 episodes. But never K 2000 has managed to take the step of a feature film (like Starsky & Hutch or Chips).

And it is not for lack of having tried. For almost 15 years, Hollywood has been on the way to convert Michael Knight into a movie hero. As early as 2013, a feature film project (at Weinstein) was launched and then abandoned. In 2016, it was the director of Fast and Furious, Justin Lin, who was trying the adventure. Then in 2020, James Wan himself broke his teeth. So Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg be more successful?

The great stranger being, as always, the participation of David Hasselhoff, which obviously seems very complicated today (or so in the form of a small cameo as for the film Alert à Malibu). Universal has so far confirmed anything. No name has yet filtered. So who would make a good Michael Knight of modern times?
