The Hobbit succeeds the hellish nanny at the head of the Hollywood actors’ union

Hollywood actors have a new union representative.
This Friday, Sean Astin was elected president of the SAG-AFTRA union. The 54 -year -old actor, revealed in the 1980s thanks to Goonies especially (he was Mickey) and became a world star by playing the nice Hobbit Sam in the saga The Lord of the Ringsthus succeeds the post in Fran Drescher. The ex-star ofA hellish nanny had been very visible in the fight in recent years, especially during the 2023 historic strike.

Astin was part of a unitary list nicknamed “The Coalition”, bringing together members of the various historic union factions as well as certain independents. He won the election with 79 % of the vote, against 21 % for Chuck Slavin, a dissident candidate and a member of the Local Council of the Syndicate for New England. Michelle HURD, also a member of the coalition, was elected secretary-treasurer.
